Welcome to the 40 & 8 Grand Du Florida Website

Grand Du Florida is the State of Florida headquarters for La Societe des Quarante Hommes et Huit Cheavaux (“La Societe”), or in English, The Society of Forty Men and Eight Horses (“The 40 & 8”).

The 40 & 8 is an independent fraternal organization of military veterans. Membership is by invitation only. Established in 1920 by members of the American Legion as a fun and honor society, Forty & Eight's founders based the organization on their military experiences in W.W.I. France. The box car of the French railways, which carried forty men (quarante hommes) or eight horses (huit chevaux) to the front, is the symbol of the organization. Titles and functions are in French. The numerals "40/8" on a triangle of French horizon blue is the logo of La Societe des Quarante Hommes et Huit Chevaux...The Forty & Eight.

Grand Du Florida is made up of 40 local chapters (“Voitures Locale”) throughout the state, and is 1415 members (“Voyageurs Militaire”) strong.

The 40 & 8 is comprised of “doers” and we allow our deeds to speak on our behalf.  One can see the    40 & 8 actively engaged in our communities and with our veterans and our youth.  Every year, Grand Du Florida, through its Voitures and its Voyageurs, donates hundreds of thousands of man hours and miles to keep America strong.
